mixed greens with roasted beets from Martha's garden (I added leftover feta...dressing is on the side - but make no mistake, I will be using all of it... blueberries from Martha's and the last of the orzo, and vitamins)

- tornado?

martha said there was a tornado at her house on wednesday...it did seem very "selective" as I would imagine a tornado to be, but (luckily) the damage (at least what was left after a few days of cleanup) was not as bad as I expected...

so delicious:
orzo, green bean, and fennel (forgot the fennel!) salad with dill pesto

used wax and string beans, japanese cucumbers and "lemon" cucumbers (all from farmer's market) - and no need for all that olive oil!

spicy quinoa, cucumber and tomato salad (didn't have onion - used scallions)

not such a pretty picture, but tasted great and even better after a day or two

and as good a time as any to work in a nice cool basement... finally ordered and received shelving for my storage unit:
before

hogging the hallway (figured there'd be little traffic on a July Sunday, and luckily only one person needed help getting stuff by)

tools of the trade (and the shelves are idiot proof! even I didn't make any "mistakes"... not even with the measuring - slightly miraculous)

OMG - it all fit!!! just need a couple of more shelves on the right
Kevin helped with the assembly (again: !!!!!)...then he left me to myself and my book - Shalom Auslander's Foreskin's Lament: A Memoir, read my him and available for download from audible.com - sooooo funny! Just finished listening to Mr. Peanut - pretty good for not-so-trashy "trash."

will be even better once the paint and cardboard box w/contents are gone

the curtains were hung on the top floor
their arrival:

the "stuff"

the channel built into the ceiling to hide any "works"

so many hooks!!!

each had to be placed in individually

yup, still got plastic on the furniture (when the rugs come, the plastic can come off)

night view

"greek salad with goat cheese" - except I made it into a pasta salad with feta and vidalia

so went to the movies
made pickle sandwiches with homemade pain de mie
first try with the bread a couple of weeks ago:

this "envelope" method seems to leave a bubble or two in the bread

pan might be too big for the recipe as well

also, most recipes call for a 400 degree oven...too hot in my opinion, although the crust did not taste burnt but rather a bit caramel like

second try (much better!) - made two batches and combined them for the rise and then used most of the dough in my extra long loaf pan, leaving enough leftover for a small loaf lowered the temp to around 365

with grated cheddar

haven't been reading much, but finally finished music through the floor - really great!
listening to shades of grey...weird
saw, at martha's recommendation, I Am Love...very, very beautiful (what a house!!!), sad, and, of course, deeply flawed ... but worth it for the beauty factor (if you like fashion and interiors)

made this once years ago and had been meaning to make it again for years...
finally got around to it for tuesday's lunch
started with way too many onions (10 giants), so the roasting/broiling (despite the recipe saying it takes five minutes) took forever...

tues AM...getting ready to cut up the avocados and transport

shots from the set:
afraid the balloon will pop...

cancer/caffeine in a glass

cabbage patch porn

trying to nap while they find "the noise"
